PodCAS

My First Podcast

I am not someone who normally listens to podcasts. I know they are all the rave and the clips that I have heard have always been interesting but I have never felt the need to listen to them.

The College of Arts and Sciences has a podcast called The Pokes PodCAS. It launched last year when I was still an intern. I thought maybe that I would start listening to podcast’s regularly after it launched. After all, if I helped worked on it, I should probably be an active listener. I listened to a few of them on and off but I never made it to the end in a single sitting.

I guess I would just rather listen to music.

Recently I was asked to sit down and record an episode. I had no clue what to really expect from the session but it was literally just a conversation with someone who has served as a mentor at my job. It was so much more natural than anything I had imagined. I laughed more during the filming of it than I ever thought I would.

After filming it, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it going out. Did I really want people to listen to me talk for almost an hour?

Well, it launched this week and I got to hear it for the first time. Now like most people, I used to hate listening to my own voice. Yet due to the hours spent at my desk recording voice overs and videos for social media, I have learned to stop caring.

I still wasn’t sure that I would want to hear myself talk for an hour. I mean I was there when it was filmed originally, did I really think it would be worth listening to?

I have news for you. It was hilarious. I found myself laughing at comments that both Jacob and I made. There were insights that sounded better than I thought they had originally. Overall I think it was pretty good for my first attempt at a podcast, plus it was fun filming and being a part of the process.

So, for those of you who want to listen to me talk for an hour about everything from choosing my major and my success in school to how moving across the country changed my life for the better, click here.
